Dwight Gentry
American Guard Dwight Gentry (183-G-1987) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for top-ranked Immortals, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 34-year old player was the main contributor (25 points, five rebounds and five assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Santiago Max (#4, 3-3) 93-91. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Immortals to consolidate first place in the Dominican Rep. LDC. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Immortals already had a very good start winning all 6 without losing a single one. In the team's last game Gentry had a remarkable 55.6% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 8 attempts. He has many years of experience at Immortals, through which he has constantly improved. Former University of Texas at Arlington star has very solid stats this year. Gentry is in league's top in assists (3rd best: 4.5apg) and averages impressive 2.5spg and 44.4% from behind 3-point line. Worth to mention Gentry played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.
The second best player in last round's games was Brayan Mendez of Del Patio. Mendez had a very good evening with 34 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Del Patio lost that game 91-110 to slightly higher-ranked Santiago Fenix (#2, 4-2). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Del Patio still maintains its place in the top 3 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 3-3 record is not bad at all. Mendez is one of the most experienced players at Del Patio and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 24.7ppg (#2). He also registered 4.8 boards per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was guard Jefry Arias (182-G-1994) of league's second-best Santiago Fenix. Arias got into 30-points club by scoring 32 points in the last round. He went also for six rebounds and four assists. He was a key player of Santiago Fenix, leading his team to a 110-91 easy win against #3 ranked Del Patio. Santiago Fenix needs these victories very badly if they think about taking over top position in the standings. Their record at this point is 4 victories and 2 lost games. Arias has a great season in Dominican Republic. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 22.2ppg (7th best) and assists with 3.3apg (8th best).
